Tonight's Public Hearing & Council Meeting

Good Afternoon Ward 1,

Our meeting tonight has an extra slot upfront for public input tonight as we have a hearing on the proposed housing tax credits. You can provide comment by email, zoom, or in person.

There is a zoning plan in the works with Montgomery County Planning for Eastern Silver Spring. Here are a couple of opportunities for public input in that process:

Help shape the future of your neighborhood by joining one of our open houses for the Eastern Silver Spring Communities Plan. Learn more about the planning process, meet the planning team, and provide important input about what you want to see happen in your community. The meetings will be in person on:

  • Wednesday, October 23, 7–9 p.m. at Eastern Middle School, 300 University Boulevard East, Silver Spring, MD 20901.

  • Saturday, November 2, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School, 8720 Carroll Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20903.

1. Public Hearing on Proposed Housing Tax Credits (see item 3 below)

This is an opportunity for residents to come and provide comment about the proposed tax credit program before we get into any other comments or issues.

Voting Session

I think that this calendar is really great. The working group worked diligently on it along with staff. I predict it will not look the exact same for the FY2027 budget as it will get tweaks and get better with age.

Work Session

I’m looking forward to a robust conversation with Council and Staff. I am interested in HCD providing the Council with yearly updates on programs. What if one is so under utilized that it is an ineffective use of staff time to keep it going? What if we quickly meet our housing goals and would like to sunset a program? What if another program would provide more efficiency in housing creation? These are all reasons that I would like a yearly update.
