Good Afternoon Ward 1,
There is going to be work done on Birch Avenue for the next few weeks. Here is a description that I received today of the work being done.Stormwater Work is Scheduled: 9/5/2024
The City plans to install stormwater improvements on Birch Avenue, near
the intersections of Cedar Avenue and Barclay Avenue. The work hours will
be 7 am to 5 pm. Access to parking will be limited or blocked during the
work. Rain or inclement weather can delay the schedule. The work is
expected to last a week or two.
During the work, traffic will be redirected as needed and one lane of traffic
will be maintained with a flagging operation. There is no parking allowed on
the street during the work. No Parking signs will be posted a couple of days
prior. The schedule may change due to weather impacts.
I asked Mr. Iraheta of the Public Works Department to explain a little about what the work is fixing so we could all understand it a bit better:
“We are looking to increase the capacity for our stormwater system in this area by installing larger conveyance piping and modern inlet structures to replace the old infrastructure that is showing its age. This work is also addressing the sinkhole at the corner of Barclay Ave and Birch Ave caused by the collapsed pipe you mentioned.”
If you have any other questions, please reach out to carlosi@takomaparkmd.gov or me.
Thanks,
Shana
