Happy New Year!
I hope that you enjoyed time with family and friends to ring in the new year. I am grateful for the time that I spent with mine. Tonight’s meeting has a somewhat light agenda. I will join virtually due to having COVID.
PRESENTATION
County Councilmember Kate Stewart will join us for an update on what our County Council is working on. This meeting also provides the City Council an opportunity to ask for help from Councilmember Stewart with intersections between county policy and city projects. I am specifically hoping to talk about traffic calming and pedestrian safety.
WORK SESSION
The City Council has not taken the decision to retire the Nuclear-Free Takoma Park Committee lightly. For the past few years, the Council has asked the Committee to increase diversity in membership. The current membership is that of members that had been already serving for several years or were previously on the Committee having already served for several years. The Advisory Committees that the City has add to the workload of staff and it is important to evaluate community interest in our various committees. Our City Staff is capable of taking on the responsibilities previously stewarded by the NF Takoma Park Committee and our attorney has made changes to our code accordingly.
